ACTON — The Vasquez boys soccer team defeated Ojai Valley 2-0 in a CIF-Southern Section Division 7 first-round match on Wedneday at Vasquez High.

Vasquez (15-3-2) finished second in the Heritage League and scored one goal in each half.

Vistamar 5, Desert Christian 0

EL SEGUNDO — The Desert Christian boys soccer team lost to Vistamar 5-0 on Wednesday in a CIF-Southern Section Division 7 first-round match.

Desert Christian (8-8-2) finished third in the Heritage League.

Pasadena 3, Eastside 0

PASADENA — The Eastside boys soccer team lost to Pasadena 3-0 in a CIF-Southern Section Division 4 first-round game on Wednesday at Pasadena High.

Eastside (9-6-5) finished third in the Golden League.

Baldwin Park 1, Quartz Hill 0

BALDWIN PARK — The Quartz Hill boys soccer team lost at Baldwin Park 1-0 in a CIF-Southern Section Division 5 first-round match on Wednesday.

Quartz Hill (10-6-2) finished second in the Golden League.

Boys Basketball

Eastside 66, Cate 53

CARPINTERIA — The Eastside boys basketball team defeated Cate 66-53 on Wednesday in a CIF-Southern Section Division 4A first-round game.

Cate was the No. 11 team in the division and Eastside (13-12) was the fourth-place team in the Golden League.

Oxnard 96, Highland 52

OXNARD — The Highland boys basketball team lost at Oxnard 96-52 in a CIF-Southern Section Division 2A first-round game on Wednesday.

Oxnard, the No. 2 seed, jumped out to a 29-14 lead in the first quarter against Highland (6-13), the third-place team in the Golden League. 

Men’s Basketball

AVC 77, Bakersfield 74

BAKERSFIELD — The Antelope Valley College men’s basketball team rallied from a double-digit deficit to defeat Bakersfield College 77-74 on Wednesday at Bakersfield.

The Marauders (11-14, 6-5) trailed by 15 points in the first half and took the lead with approximately three minutes remaining in the game.

“It was back and forth,” AVC coach John Taylor said.

The Marauders had every starter score in double figures, led by starting point guard Habib Arogundade, who had 18 points, three assists and three rebounds.

Da’Jour Lewis, Tyriq Perry, Justin Hill and Mekhi Smith all scored 10 points apiece. Hill also finished with nine rebounds.

Bakersfield got a shot to tie the game at the end, but missed and an AVC player secured the rebound.

AVC will host Glendale on Saturday at 7 p.m.

Women’s basketball

AVC 73, Bakersfield 66

BAKERSFIELD — The Antelope Valley College women’s basketball team rallied for a conference victory at Bakersfield College, 73-66 on Wednesday.

The Marauders (14-11, 9-2) trailed for most of the game before taking a lead midway through the fourth quarter.

AVC remains in second place in the Western State Conference South Division.

Kianna Cross led the Marauders with 21 points, Niyah Page finished with a double-double, 12 rebounds and 14 points and Malaiya Patton had 11 points.

“We played behind most of the first three quarters,” AVC coach Barry Green said. “We managed to tie the game and take the lead in the last five minutes.”

The Marauders scored 30 points in the fourth quarter.

AVC will host first-place Glendale (10-1) on Saturday for a 5 p.m. game.
