Animal name: Parker
Parker is a four-year-old black/brown, altered, male German Shepherd that was brought to the Palmdale Animal Care Center as a stray, on July 8. While being examined, Parker was nervous at first, confused about what was going on. He gradually started relaxing, even placing his head on the staffer’s lap, seeking attention and allowing petting. As the handler approached the kennel, Parker was standing at the back. The handler opened the gate and began to verbally coax him. Parker quickly rushed out. He was walking ahead of his handler and gave a good pull on the leash. When he arrived at the catch pen, he approached the fence and exchanged a timid greeting with a male Doberman and a female Husky. When he went into the yard, he was approached by multiple dogs, but Parker quickly moved away trying to create space. He approached the handlers, seeking affection and reassurance. He approached a calmer Shepherd, slowly walking up to his side. After the brief greeting, he kept to himself. He seemed to prefer hanging out, watching other dogs play. Parker is recommended to a home with middle school-aged children and calm dogs. To visit Parker, use the link and follow the instructions on how to create a self-scheduling morning appointment at the Palmdale Animal Care Center: https://linktr.ee/; https://animalcare.lacounty.gov/all-visits-to-the-animal-care-center-are-by-appointment-only/. You can also visit the center without an appointment, from 2 to 5 p.m., Mondays through Sundays, except 2 to 7 p.m., Wednesdays. Also, the Los Angeles County Department of Animal Care and Control is celebrating “Clear the Shelter” in August, offering adoptions at discounted prices — $20 plus license for dogs and only the license fee for cats. Other fees may apply.

Animal name: June Bug
June Bug is a two-year-old, white, Siberian Husky that was brought to the Palmdale Animal Care Center as a stray. She is a friendly and easy-to handle-dog, seeking the attention of her handler and the medical staff. She was pawing at the gate as the handler approached her kennel. She licked the handler’s hand as he opened the gate. She walked well next to her handler on the way to the catch pen. She walked up to the fence to greet a female Pitbull, sniffing it through the fence. June Bug entered the yard and was approached by a playful Pitbull. She was tense as the Pitbull sniffed her body. She walked away to explore the yard. She was tense as the female Pitbull began to trail behind her while sniffing her body. The other dogs in the yard came up to her and surrounded her as they sniffed. She was tolerant of them and returned brief greetings to each of them. A male Labrador came up to her and started to play bow. She became tense and walked away. She began to relax as she explored the yard. She walked up to a female Pitbull and started to play bow and jump in front of her. The Pitbull declined the invitation. She sniffed a handler’s hand as he extended it toward her. She was loose but not interested, lingering next to the handler. She remained calm and observant of other dogs. June Bug is recommended to a home with high school-aged children as well as calm dogs. Hester is a three-year-old Shepherd mix that came to the Lancaster Animal Care Center as a stray, on June 7. He is a very sweet but nervous boy with a wiggly, happy half-tail wag. During his behavior assessment, Hester was very excited to meet the other dogs, giving soft greetings as he entered the yard and play bowing to invite everyone to play.
