ROSAMOND — The Rosamond girls basketball team defeated California City 66-40 to win the High Desert League title on Thursday.

It is the second straight league title for the Roadrunners (17-8, 11-1 HDL), who held off a scrappy Ravens team in the regular-season finale.

“Our girls really came together defensively in the second half and gave us some easy points on the other end,” Rosamond coach Justin Armstrong said.

Hannah Grimes led the Roadrunners with 22 points on senior night, while Jazmine Borrego scored 19 and Maeyll Grimes added 17.

Rosamond will now await the CIF-Central Section playoff brackets, which will be released on Saturday.

Crean Lutheran 67, Knight 43

IRVINE — The Knight girls basketball team lost at Crean Lutheran 67-43 on Thursday in a CIF-Southern Section Division 3AA first-round game.

Knight (15-11) was outscored 20-6 in both the second and third quarters, after taking a 13-10 lead in the opening quarter.

Boys Soccer

Farmersville 4, Rosamond 0

FARMERSVILLE — The Rosamond boys soccer team lost at Farmersville 4-0 in a CIF-Central Section Division 5 second-round game on Thursday.

Rosamond (15-7-1) won the High Desert League championship this season.

“It was tough,” Rosamond coach Miguel Guillen said. “I wish Farmersville the best. They should take it.”

Guillen said he was thankful to his players, especially the seniors.

“The whole team in general, they worked. They gave their all,” Guillen said. “I can’t complain. Thank you for this year and the hard work they put into it.

“Nobody will forget this team.”

College Softball

AVC 10, Ventura 8

LANCASTER — The Antelope Valley College softball team avenged a loss to Ventura with a 10-8 comeback victory on Thursday.

The Marauders (6-6) scored first, but went down 5-1 in the fourth inning. They came back to tie the game with four runs in the bottom of the fourth, but Ventura came back with three runs in the fifth. The Marauders scored four more in the bottom of the inning to take a 9-8 lead and added an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth.

Brianna Garrett started the game, but left with an arm injury. She allowed one hit and one unearned run with two walks and three strikeouts in two innings. Maritza Arroyo picked the victory in the circle, allowing four runs, one earned, on five hits with one walk and three strikeouts in 4.2 innings.

“Our defense has been horrible, so we put ourselves in a hole almost every inning and had to dig our way out,” AVC coach Cindy Vargas said. “But the girls were very resilient and were able to come back and win it.”

Alexa Alvarez went 3-for-4 with a double, two RBIs and two runs for the Marauders, while Kaitlyn Cronin was 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI and Savannah Moakley was 3-for-4 with a double, a triple and an RBI.

Arroyo helped herself out at the plate, going 2-for-4  with two RBIs and Amy Manzo finished 2-for-4 with two runs.

AVC will play Saddleback Valley College and Hancock College in the San Jacinto Tournament on Sunday.

Girls Soccer

Oxnard 1, Knight 0

OXNARD — The Knight girls soccer team lost at Oxnard 1-0 on Thursday in a CIF-Southern Section Division 3 first-round game.

Knight (15-4-4) finished third in the Golden League.

Oxnard, the No. 3 seed in the division, scored the lone goal in the second half.

Diamond Bar 3, Eastside 0

DIAMOND BAR — The Eastside girls soccer team lost at Diamond Bar 3-0 in a CIF-Southern Section Division 3 first-round game on Thursday.

Eastside (11-6-2) finished second in the Golden League.

Diamond Bar, the No. 7 seed, scored all three goals in the second half.
