HESPERIA — The Quartz Hill girls tennis team took second place overall at the Scorpion Invitational in Hesperia on Saturday.
The Rebels’ Semma Hadaya and Emma Abaied won the doubles championship with a swift 6-1, 6-0 victory. It was Hadaya’s second title after winning with teammate Taylor Heckenliable last year.
Nassim Tavakoli and Brooke Faulk earned third place in doubles. After splitting the first two sets with their opponents in the third-place match, Tavakoli and Faulk won the tiebreaker 13-11.
Quartz Hill singles players Riley Johnson and Hanna Hoang both won their first round matches, but lost in close second matches.
The team points were accumulated by the wins from the individual events. With two doubles teams in the top three, the Rebels were able to accumulate enough points for second place.
On Monday, Quartz Hill defeated Burroughs (Ridgecrest), 12-6, on the road.
Johnson swept her three sets, 6-2, 6-3, 6-0. She avenged a loss to Burroughs’ Brittany Jacobs, defeating her 6-2 after losing to her 7-5 in the Scorpion Invitational on Saturday.
The Rebels won eight of nine doubles sets with Hadaya and Faulk teaming up for a 6-3, 6-1, 6-4 sweep and Mia Ogebe and Victoria Edwards picked up a 6-3, 6-4, 7-6 sweep.
Quartz Hill begins Golden League play today at home against Lancaster.
