MESA, Arizona — The University of Antelope Valley women’s basketball team beat Benedictine University 77-74 in overtime in a California Pacific Conference game on Saturday.

The Pioneers (14-4, 4-1) trailed at halftime by two, 37-35, and entering the fourth period, but UAV senior guard Samantha Earl tied the game with a field goal with two seconds remaining in regulation to send the game to overtime.

UAV took the lead for good with one minute and five seconds remaining in OT.

Earl and junior forward Tylen Price both scored 15 points apiece and combined for eight rebounds, three assists, two steals and one block.

Junior guard Asia Young finished with 12 points and seven rebounds, senior guard Alyssa Gonzales had 10 points, senior guard Ilianna Blanc had nine points, three rebounds and two steals, senior guard LaChae McColor added eight points and seven rebounds.

The Pioneers were playing their second consecutive overtime game, after dropping their first conference game two days prior to Embry-Riddle.

UAV will host Simpson University in a conference game on Thursday at 5:30 p.m.

Men’s Basketball

UAV 92, Benedictine 75

MESA, Arizona — The University of Antelope Valley men’s basketball team beat Benedictine University 92-75 on Saturday in a California Pacific Conference game.

Senior forward Christian Drayton led the Pioneers (6-11, 4-1) with his 10th double-double of the season, finishing with a team-high 19 points and a game-high 12 rebounds.

UAV junior guard Kamal Holden finished with 14 points, six rebounds, two steals and one block, junior forward Kane Keil had 13 points, five rebounds and three assists and junior center Deividas Mockaitis added 11 points, eight rebounds and three blocks.

The Pioneers jumped out to a 48-29 lead at halftime against the Redhawks (13-7, 2-3).

UAV will host Simpson University in a conference game at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday.

Girls Basketball

Lancaster 59, Leuzinger 51

BURBANK — The Lancaster girls basketball team beat Leuzinger 59-51 at the Burroughs Burbank Showcase on Saturday night.

The Eagles (15-4, 7-0) were tied 48-48 with Leuzinger with three minutes remaining when junior Kenya Edelhart scored nine straight points to lead Lancaster to the victory.

Edelhart scored 24 points for the Eagles, Rayshanti McNeal finished with 13 points and 13 rebounds and Sabrina Jeans added 11 points.

Lancaster will host Knight on Tuesday as Golden League play resumes between the only two undefeated teams remaining in the league.
