LOS ANGELES — The Paraclete boys basketball team lost its first game of the season, 80-54 at Brentwood High in a Gold Coast League game on Wednesday.

The Spirits (20-1) won their first 20 games of the season, but were outscored in the first quarter 30-4 by Brentwood (18-1).

Nolan Boffman led Paraclete with 18 points and Amado Coleman added 17 points.

“They are way more physical than we are tonight,” Paraclete coach Newton Chelette said. “We just didn’t match their intensity and emotion. Every team in our league has this caliber of players.

“We have to be prepared to match the intensity and physical play of the teams in our league.”

Of the seven teams in the Gold Coast League, six went to the playoffs last season, three won a CIF-Southern Section championship and two won a State title. Brentwood won a CIF-Southern Section championship.

Paraclete will play Shalhevet in a showcast game at St. Genevieve High on Saturday at 8 p.m.

Boys Soccer

Rosamond 5, Kern Valley 2

ROSAMOND — The Rosamond boys soccer team beat Kern Valley 5-2 on Wednesday in a High Desert League match at Rosamond High School.

Rosamond (3-1) led 3-2 at halftime and scored its first goal on an own goal by Kern Valley.

Defender Erick Cornejo scored the second goal for the Roadrunners, Treyden Atwell scored on an assist by Alejandro Chavez, who also assisted on the fourth goal by Danieel Rehachek.

Cornejo scored the fifth goal for Rosamond, on an assist by Fernando Ponce.

Rosamond will host California City today at 5 p.m.
