The NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series returns to one of its most popular sites when the 38th annual Lucas Oil NHRA Nationals are held at Brainerd International Raceway in Minnesota.
The beauty of its backdrop is obscured by the fact that this is the second-to-last race before the Countdown to the Championship begins.
Steve Torrence has a comfortable 621-point lead over Antron Brown in Top Fuel, Robert Hight enjoys a 168-point lea over second place John Force in Funny Car, and Andrew Hines holds a commanding 197-point lead over Steve Krawiec in Pro Stock Motorcycle.
Pro Stock is the only serious points battle.
Bo Butner leads second place Greg Anderson by 46 points and third place Alex Laughlin by 67 points.
Team Harvick “Starting To Figure It Out”
Kevin Harvick won for the second time in four weeks at Michigan International Speedway.
His Mobil 1 Ford Mustang had to overcome an early flat tire to pass June Michigan race winner Joey Logano with 15 laps to run for the lead.
“All season we could feel ourselves getting closer to victory,” Bakersfield’s favorite son said. “In the last month we’ve won twice, and more importantly, we’re dialed in from here on out.
Harvick stole the hearts of the crowd when he took his son, Keelan, along for the ride while doing victory burnouts.
Formula One in the USA: More Races, Not Race Teams
Chase Carey and the Liberty Media Group say they want a second grand prix race in the United States before they want a second American-owned race team.
Carey confirmed last week he has received several inquiries from well-financed groups interested in launching race teams.
“Our first priority is a second American Grand Prix, possibly in Miami or Las Vegas,” Carey said.
Noting an uptick in American viewership of Formula One this year, Carey repeated his belief that the U.S market is much bigger than most observers estimate.
