JetHawks finish sweep of Quakes

RANCHO CUCAMONGA — The JetHawks finished a four-game sweep of the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes with a 10-3 victory on Sunday afternoon.

This is the JetHawks’ first series victory and sweep of the season and their first series win at LoanMart Field since June 30-July 3, 2017.

Lancaster has now won five straight games after starting the season 0-6.

The Quakes took a 1-0 lead in the fourth inning before the JetHawks got two runs in the top of the sixth to make it 2-1. Casey Golden led off the frame with a double and went to third on a wild pitch before scoring on a single by Luis Castro. Castro went to second on a wild pitch and then came home on Sean Bouchard’s one-out double.

Rancho took back the lead with two runs in the bottom of the sixth, 3-2, but the JetHawks put up a six-spot in the top of the seventh to blow the game open.

Matt Hearn singled for the JetHawks and was sacrificed to second by Ryan Vilade. Then Golden and Castro were both hit by pitches to load the bases for Todd Czinege, who hit a two-run single.

Bouchard, who was 3-for-5 with three RBIs, hit an RBI double and Ramon Marcelino followed with an RBI single before Taylor Snyder smacked his first home run of the season, a two-run shot, to cap off the scoring.

Marcelino added a two-run home run in the top of the ninth.

Matt Dennis picked up the win for the JetHawks, allowing three runs on nine hits with four strikeouts in six innings.

The JetHawks squeezed out a win on Saturday night as Vilade’s ninth-inning double scored the tying run and Castro brought home the go-ahead run with a bases-loaded walk in a 7-6 victory.

The JetHawks return home today to face Inland Empire at 6:35 p.m.

Angels-Cubs game snowed out

CHICAGO — Snow and rain led to the postponement of Sunday’s finale of a three-game series between the Los Angeles Angels and Chicago Cubs at Wrigley Field.

A makeup date was not immediately announced.

A steady snow fell throughout the morning and a mix of snow and rain continued throughout the afternoon.

With the postponement, the Cubs decided to keep Tyler Chatwood in the bullpen for now and start Yu Darvish in the opener of three-game series in Miami tonight. Chatwood was scheduled to take Jon Lester’s turn in the rotation after the left-hander strained his left hamstring.

Right-hander Trevor Cahill will start for the Angels in the opener of a three-game series at Texas tonight.
