LANCASTER — The Desert Christian boys soccer team defeated Lancaster Baptist 5-2 in a non-league game at Eastside High School on Thursday.

Caleb Browne scored three goals for the Knights (6-3-3), while John Henderson scored one goal, Jacob Ranz recorded a goal and an assist and Chris Gonzalez added three assists.

Desert Christian goalkeeper Evan Oliff recorded five saves for the win.

The Knights take on Trinity Classical Academy at the Lancaster National Soccer Center on Monday before opening Desert Mountain League play at Mammoth next Friday.

Rosamond 6, California City 1

ROSAMOND — The Rosamond boys soccer team defeated California City 6-1 in a High Desert League game on Thursday.

Fernando Ponce scored two goals and added two assists for the Roadrunners (4-1 HDL), while Traydon Atwell also recorded two goals — the first and last goal — and picked up one assist.

Daniel Rehacek picked up a goal and an assist, while Stone Longrifle added a goal and Angel Alanis and Jonathan Rosales picked up one assist apiece.

“The team is starting to understand and starting to get the flow of things,” said Rosamond coach Miguel Guillen. “We’re getting better. But we still have a lot of work to do.”

Rosamond goalkeeper Alexander Rivas made three saves in the win.

The Roadrunners will play second-place Frazier Mountain at home on Tuesday before traveling to first place Bishop next Thursday. Rosamond’s lone loss in league was a 2-1 loss to Bishop.

“Hopefully we’ll be ready next week, because that’s the real test,” Guillen said.

Girls Soccer

Rosamond 9, California City 0

Rosamond 4, Kern Valley 0

ROSAMOND — The Rosamond girls soccer team won its second High Desert League game in as many days, beating California City 9-0 on Thursday at Rosamond High, a day after beating Kern Valley 4-0 on Wednesday at Rosamond.

Alayna Finch had three goals for the Roadrunners (8-5-1) in the win over California City, Wendy Campos and Michaela Gaddis both had two goals apiece and Victoria Gomez and Alyssa Moncibais each scored one goal each for Rosamond.

Rosamond goalie Kalli Reader had three saves.

Campos had two goals in the win against Kern Valley and Finch and Elysa Gregg both scored one goal for the Roadrunnerrs.

Rosamond goalie Moncibais had three saves in the victory.

Women’s Basketball

Embry-Riddle 101, UAV 96, OT

PRESCOTT, Ariz. — The University of Antelope Valley women’s basketball team lost in overtime of a California Pacific Conference game on Thursday, 101-96 at Embry-Riddle University.

Embry-Riddle (13-3, 3-1) outscored UAV (13-4, 3-1) by one point in the fourth quarter and 19-14 in overtime.

Senior guard Samantha Earl led the Pioneers with 19 points, five rebounds and two assists, junior forward Tylen Price had 18 points, three rebounds, one assist and a steal and senior guard Daizah Pounds added 16 points, four rebounds and three steals.

Junior guard Asia Young finished with 13 points, two rebounds, one assist and one steal, senior guard Ilianna Blanc had eight points and seven rebounds and sophomore forward Alexia Budd added seven points, five rebounds, two steals and one assist.

The Pioneers play a conference game at Benedictine-Mesa on Saturday at 11 a.m.

Men’s Basketball

Embry-Riddle 69, UAV 61

PRESCOTT, Ariz. — The University of Antelope Valley men’s basketball team lost its first California Pacific Conference game, 69-61 at Embry-Riddle University on Thursday.

The Pioneers (5-11, 3-1) led 28-22 at halftime, but were outscored 47-33 in the second half by Embry-Riddle (9-9, 2-2).

Senior forward Christian Drayton led UAV with his ninth double-double of the season, scoring a game-high 24 points and a game-high 15 rebounds.

Senior guard Miles Nolen-Webb added 19 points, five rebounds, three steals and one assist for the Pioneers, junior forward Kane Keil finished with seven points, five rebounds and one steal.

The Pioneers will play a conference game at Benedictine-Mesa on Saturday at 1 p.m.
