AWARDS — Knight senior Javier Guzman, bottom, and Palmdale senior Javier Garcia battle for the ball in a Golden League game on Jan. 31. Guzman was named the Golden League Offensive Player of the Year, while Garcia was named the Defensive Player of the Year.

The Knight High boys soccer team was the last team on top of the Golden League standings when the season ended, winning the Golden League title. 

They also picked up two of the Players of the Year and three other players on the first team of the all-Golden League honors.

Senior Javier Guzman was named the Offensive Player of the Year for the Hawks (15-3-6, 10-1-3 GL), while junior Francisco Bravo was named the Goalkeeper of the Year. 

Knight allowed just 20 goals on the season and did not allow a goal in 10 games.

Palmdale senior Javier Garcia was named the Defensive Player of the Year. Garcia scored two goals and led the Falcons with 13 assists.

Joining Bravo and Guzman on the first team were Hawks junior Anthony Roque, senior Martin Jaramillo and sophomore Leo Savala.

Eastside, which finished second in the Golden League with a 10-2-2 record (16-5-3) overall, had four players named to the first team after the Lions’ historical season.

Eastside reached the quarterfinals of the playoffs for the first time in school history. 

Senior forward Bryan Lima and senior defender Isaias Mireles were named to the first team for the Lions. They were also named to the all-CIF-Southern Section Division 4 team for their playoff contributions.

Eastside junior Christopher Romero and sophomore Diego Mireles were also named to the Golden League first team.

Palmdale (9-7-4, 8-5-1 GL), which finished third in the Golden League, had three first-teamers — Garcia, senior George Chavez and sophomore Brian Trujillo.

Chavez led the Falcons with eight goals and added four assists, while Trujillo scored four goals with one assist.

Quartz Hill (8-9-2, 6-6-2 GL), which was fourth in the Golden League, was represented on the first team by senior Kaylon Williams and junior Juan Garcia.

Antelope Valley senior Edgar Guerrero and junior Jose Mendez were also on the first team. The Antelopes (11-10-2, 6-7-1 GL) were fifth in the Golden League.

Sixth-place Highland (6-10-1, 5-8-1 GL) was represented on the first team by junior Victor Jimenez, who scored four goals and one assist.

Senior goalkeeper Juan Ceja represented seventh-place Littlerock (7-10-3, 2-9-3 GL) on the first team. Ceja played 1,300 minutes in the goal, allowing 27 goals, while recording 105 saves and three shutouts.

Eighth-place Lancaster (5-19-2, 2-11-1 GL) was represented on the first team by sophomore Aaron Santos Valenzuela.

Knight junior Kenny Oropeza and Jessie Aguayo were named to the second team, along with Eastside seniors Jaret Rojas and Miguel Cruz, Palmdale seniors Edwin Arjona and George Rodriguez, Quartz Hill senior Cade Lasley and sophomore Matthew Gamero, Antelope Valley junior Enrique Villalobos and senior Ahmon Anderson, Highland senior Sebastian Gonzalez and sophomore Bryan Sanchez, Littlerock senior Saul Cervantes and Lancaster senior Jaren Leonard.

Honorable mentions went to Knight senior Allen Moody, Eastside sophomore Roberto Vargas, Palmdale senior Jose Rubio, Quartz Hill senior Peyton Colburn, Antelope Valley sophomore Christian Gonzalez, Littlerock senior Adrian Garcia, Highland sophomore Andres Saldana and Lancaster senior Nathan Brockbank.
