Referees wanted: The city of Lancaster, Parks, Recreation and Arts Department is seeking adult and youth basketball referees. Applicants must have knowledge of the game. 

Adult games begin in January and run Mondays thru Thursdays. Pay is $25 per game. Youth games are on Saturdays, ages 5-13. Prices vary.

Weekly clinic: Junior and adult golf clinics are available every Saturday at Desert Aire Golf Course.

Classes: JCJ/ATA, the Community Tennis Association in the A.V., and Net Generation are taking tennis to new heights in the Antelope Valley. Net Generation is a nation wide USTA tennis program that will make tennis accessible to more kids ages 8 to 17 years old.

The NJTL tennis program, which has been based at Jane Reynolds Park in Lancaster since 2008, will continue to offer low cost tennis lessons to kids who would not ordinarily have the opportunity to take tennis lessons. The goal of the program has not changed, just it’s name and scope.

New classes: With classes starting at $40 per month, Excel Tennis strives to put a racket in the hands of any person who wishes to learn or improve their game. Excel Tennis offers public and private classes and unique amenities — a unique rating system, year round ladders, quarterly tournaments — for ages 5-adult. These all come free with signing up.

Classes are currently held at Sgt. Steve Owen Memorial Park (formerly Lancaster City Park), Jane Reynolds Park and El Dorado Park.

AV VB Club: Antelope Valley Volleyball Club (AVVC) Girls’ Tryouts in November.

The following tryouts will be held at The Palmdale Learning Plaza, located on the corner of Rayburn Road and Division St. in Palmdale. 

The 15-16 and 17-18 makeup tryouts will both be on Saturday, Nov. 2. The 15-16 tryouts will be from 9-10:30 a.m., while the 17-18 tryouts will be held from 10:30 a.m. to noon.

Players need to bring: $20 tryout fee (checks made payable to AVVC); insurance card; parent/guardian; and water bottle.

Please wear appropriate volleyball attire, including tennis shoes and knee pads.

Aero VB Club: Aero Volleyball Club will be holding girls tryouts in November.

All tryouts will be held in the Antelope Valley College gym at 3041 W. Ave. K in Lancaster.
