While the CIF-Southern Section is kicking off its second week of soccer and basketball playoffs, the CIF-Central Section is just getting started.

The Rosamond and Desert girls and boys soccer teams will start the playoffs on Wednesday, according to the brackets released on Monday. The Rosamond girls basketball team and California City and Desert boys basketball teams will also play first-round games on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Rosamond girls soccer is ranked No. 3 in CIF-CS Division 6 and will host No. 14 Summit Charter Collegiate Academy at 3 p.m. on Wednesday.

The Roadrunners (14-5-2) finished second place in the High Desert League with a 10-1-1 record. Summit Charter (9-5) also finished second in the East Sierra League with a 6-3 record.

The Desert girls soccer team is ranked No. 15 in CIF-CS Division 5 and will play at No. 2 Orosi on Wednesday.

The Scorpions (5-14) finished tied for fifth in the High Desert League with a 3-9 record, while Orosi (13-2-4) was second in the West Sequoia League with a 9-2-1 record.

The Rosamond boys soccer team is ranked No. 8 in CIF-CS Division 5 and will host No. 9 Liberty in the first round at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, making it a doubleheader for the girls and boys teams.

The Roadrunners (11-11-1) finished second in the High Desert League with a 9-2-1 record and seemed to be playing their best soccer at the end of the season. Liberty (8-16-1) took fifth in the North Sequoia League with a 3-7 record.

The Desert boys soccer team is ranked No. 12 in Division 5 and will play at No. 5 Fowler on Wednesday.

The Scorpions (4-8) were fifth in the High Desert League with a 4-8 record, while Fowler was fourth in the West Sequoia League with a 6-5-1 record.

The Rosamond girls basketball team is ranked No. 9 in CIF-Central Section Division 5 and will play at No. 8 Fowler today at 7 p.m.

The Roadrunners (16-11) improved steadily throughout the season and had a big win against Kern Valley that tied them for the High Desert League title with an 11-1 record. Fowler (15-8) finished tied for second in the West Sequoia League with a 9-3 record.

The California City boys basketball team is ranked 4 in CIF-Central Section Division 5 and will host No. 13 Corcoran on Wednesday at 6 p.m. It is a rematch of last year’s championship game, which the Ravens won 77-68 for their second straight CIF title.

The Ravens (22-5) were the undefeated High Desert League champions with a 12-0 record. Corcoran  (14-11) finished fourth in the East Sequoia League with a 6-6 record.

Desert is the No. 6 seed in Division 5 and will host league foe Bishop, which is ranked No. 11, in the first round on Wednesday at 7 p.m.

The Scorpions (13-6) took second in the High Desert League with a 9-3 record behind Cal City. The Broncos (11-12) were third behind Desert with an 8-4 record.

One of Desert’s league losses came at the hands of Bishop in an uncharacteristic 52-49 defeat in the second half of the season. Desert defeated Bishop 55-37 in the first half of the season.

Still alive and kicking in the CIF-Southern Section are the Vasquez girls and boys soccer teams, the Eastside boys soccer team, the Knight girls basketball team and the Highland, Quartz Hill, Mojave and Desert Christian boys basketball teams.

The No. 2-ranked Vasquez girls soccer team will play at Desert Hot Springs in the CIF-SS Division 7 quarterfinals today at 3 p.m., while the Vasquez boys soccer team, ranked No. 4, will play at Bishop Diego in the CIF-SS Division 7 quarterfinals on Wednesday.

The Eastside boys soccer team will be making its first appearance in the quarterfinals where the Lions will take on Rialto on the road in CIF-SS Division 4 on Wednesday.

The Knight girls basketball team will be playing in its third straight quarterfinal appearance with a game at Santiago (Corona) in CIF-SS Division 3AA on Wednesday at 7 p.m.

The Highland boys basketball team plays at Ventura today at 7 p.m. in the CIF-SS Division 3AA second round, while Quartz Hill hosts Shadow Hills tonight at 7 in CIF-SS Division 4AA.

The Desert Christian boys basketball team will play at Bassett tonight at 7 in the CIF-SS Division 5AA second round and Mojave plays at de Toledo at 7 p.m. in the second round of the CIF-SS Division 5A playoffs.
