BARSTOW — The Antelope Valley College men’s basketball team won its first conference game on Saturday, a 78-65 win at Barstow.

The Marauders (8-15, 1-4) finished the first half of Western State East Conference play.

Julian Payton finished with 16 points, nine assists, three rebounds and two steals for AVC and teammate Elie Ghomsi had 16 points, nine rebounds and two steals. Steve Johnson came off the AVC bench to score 14 points, including hitting four 3-pointers.

“I’m just happy to get a conference victory,” AVC coach John Taylor said. “We’re kind of looking forward to getting a rematch.”

AVC will host Victor Valley on Saturday.

Men’s College Volleyball

Palomar 3, AVC 1

LANCASTER — The Antelope Valley College men’s volleyball team lost to Palomar 24-20, 25-17, 22-25, 26-24, in its season opener on Friday.

Matthew Lee led the Marauders with 25 kills, six blocks and three aces, while Julian Green picked up seven kills, Joshua Pinedo recorded six kills, Jonathan Teo added three blocks, Gamaiel Escobar contributed nine digs and Brandon Holderbach-Lee had 34 assists.

AVC will play San Diego Mesa at home on Tuesday.
