Be hungry when you “hit the road Jack” over to Jack’s place in Leona Valley for a unique and tasty meal in a warm and homey atmosphere. The restaurant is really quaint with lots of wood, reminiscent of the old western days, comfy booths and a really nice pet friendly outdoor patio.

Jack’s has a very nice breakfast menu which is served 7AM-2PM, with all the usual fare plus a few specialty items—Hangover Breakfast, Chorizo Tostada Skillet, Ranch Hand Burrito, Stuffed French Toast, Cinnamon Apple Pancakes and Chipotle Western Benedict. These just top the breakfast list and then going in to the lunch menu you will find burgers, sandwiches, wraps and melts of every variety—Salmon Filet, Pulled Pork, Southwest Turkey Melt, Buffalo Chicken Wrap, Steve’s Meatloaf, Chili Size Burger and Classic Pastrami to name a few. If you are in the mood for salad, they have a nice variety as well—House, Wedge, Chicken Cobb, Greek, Cowboy and BBQ Chicken.

Last week I asked my friend to meet me up in Leona Valley for breakfast—it’s about a 10-minute scenic drive from Palmdale or a 15-minute drive from Quartz Hill thru Godde pass. Either way, it’s a nice drive and well worth it! We were seated right away in a warm and inviting booth.

As we perused the menu, we noticed some very interesting specialty drinks—Bacon Bloody Mary, Plain or Tropical Mimosas (champagne, orange juice, raspberry, strawberry and fruit) however, since it was a work day we each had a cup of coffee. I will be back on the weekend to partake in one of those delicious drinks.

I highly recommend the Thai Chicken wrap. It’s a wonderful combination of subtlety seasoned chicken breast and crunchy veggies (lettuce, carrot, cucumber & onion) with just the right amount of peanut dressing to keep everything moist all wrapped up in a green (spinach) tortilla.  Easy to eat, a healthy choice, absolutely delightful and quite filling.

Ooh la la - the French Toast!  A hearty portion of thick fresh bread cooked to perfection with just the right amount of eggs, butter and brown sugar, topped off with a sprinkle of YUMMY powdered sugar! Need I say more—I think not, this was amazing.

If you’re an eggs and bacon fan, go for the Jack’s mEgga Plate and ask to have half bacon and half of the taste bud pleasing sausage - the best I’ve had in years! A very hearty breakfast with delicious everything—from the eggs to the potatoes to the meat to the toast. Lastly, we had the Eggs Benedict—warm grilled ham, hot buttered toasted English muffins, eggs poached perfectly topped with a warm, rich, creamy, lemony-butter house-made hollandaise sauce. It is served with your choice of hash browns or home fries but I opted for fresh fruit—another amazingly delicious dish.

After enjoying our breakfast and lunch so much, I decided to go back for dinner to finish my review. So, the next evening my companion and I drove up for dinner and as we walked up to the restaurant, we noticed the patio was all lit up with pretty lights; however, since it was rather cold outside, we decided to dine inside. We ordered our drinks—beer for my companion and hot tea for me plus the Bacon, Jalapeno Mac & Cheese. There were quite few appetizers available like Buffalo Wings, Pimento Cheese Jalapeno Poppers, Cheese Stuffed Garlic twists (five cheese blend garlic bread served with house-made marinara), but once I saw the word “bacon” in front of mac & cheese, I just had to try it. And I’m happy I did: a big portion of ooey, gooey, creamy, cheese sauce with lots and lots of crumbled bacon and then extra cheese on top. This dish was really amazing bite after bite. It’s a definite must have when you go for dinner. You will find it under the pasta portion of your menu, but equally enjoyable as an appetizer.

As we were looking over the rest of the menu, we noticed some amazing sounding entrees—Pan Seared Salmon, Bone-In Pork Chop, Meatloaf and Cast-Iron Charred Ribeye just to name a few and we decided on Lemon Chicken and Whiskey Bacon Apricot Glazed Chicken. The lemon chicken was sautéed in a lemon butter, mushroom sauce and served with mashed potatoes and veggies. It was a wonderful dish—the sauce was fabulous with lots of flavor and a nice consistency. The seasoned chicken was tender and juicy, the potatoes were perfect and the veggies especially the carrots were incredible—sweet and flavorful.

Now, its time to talk about the whiskey, apricot, bacon glazed chicken. Ultra-tender, flavor packed, baked chicken. Melt in your mouth, seasoned and juicy chicken slathered with a sweet apricot whiskey glaze—subtle hints of whiskey and bacon mixed with the sweet flavor of apricot. This magic secret sauce is genius—we just couldn’t get enough. A winning combination and my favorite of the night. It was served with the best veggies (perfectly cooked onions, squash and red bell peppers) and a baked potato with all the fixings.

Last but certainly not least was our freshly baked, hot out of the oven Cherry Cobbler for dessert. Dark sweet and I mean sweet cherries baked in their own juices and topped with sweet, cinnamon deliciousness—rich, decadent and sinfully divine!

Jack’s Place is open Tuesday thru Sunday 7:00am offering breakfast, lunch, dinner, beer, wine, specialty crafted cocktails, daily specials and a first-class Taco Tuesday celebration. Located at 40352 90th St West in Leona Valley, (661) 622-7068.  Bon Appétit!
