It’s obvious why the Greenhouse Cafe has been voted by Antelope Valley Press readers as the winner of AV’s Best Salads for the past 25 years. They have so many salads it’s simply amazing all the choices available—Carol’s, Chicken Caesar, Spinach, Tri Tip, Mandarin Chicken, Tossed, the Famous Cajun Chicken, BBQ Chicken, Cobb and Chicken Caesar and they offer so much more—Soups, Pastas, Sandwiches and Desserts! Maybe AV’s Best Café would make more sense!

Having dinner with my friend Joy last week, we decided to order a few different options, to get a better opinion of everything they have! We picked the Carol’s Specialty Salad—scrumptious chicken, crisp apples, cranberries and walnuts, with a rich raspberry vinaigrette drizzled over a bed of romaine lettuce and topped with Parmesan cheese. My taste buds were dancing up and down in anticipation before the salad was even brought to the table!  Quite a few different flavors and textures all mixed together with the sweet and tangy raspberry vinaigrette made right inside the Greenhouse Café kitchen. Well, it was just as delicious as it sounded—fresh, cool and crisp with the cranberries adding a delightful touch.

The Pasta Perfections have a nice variety as well—Chicken, Seafood (crab, shrimp, scallops, creamy white sauce, mushrooms, broccoli and topped with Parmesan cheese), Chicken Pomodora (boneless skinless chicken breast, sautéed in olive oil, wine garlic, basil, fresh tomatoes and topped with Parmesan cheese), Marinara, Primavera, Alfredo, Shrimp, Shrimp Scampi, Cajun Chicken, Italian Sausage and Peppers, Spicy Beef and Broccoli, Thai Chicken (chicken breasts in a spicy Thai peanut sauce) and Three Cheese Ravioli. Ohhhh, the Pastabilities!

We chose the Shrimp Pasta—medium shrimp sautéed in a white sauce with mushrooms served with toast. Generous portion of plump, succulent shrimp mixed in with an ample amount of fettuccini noodles—just the right amount of flavorful cream sauce with enough left over to dip our toast. The beautiful presentation made me want to dive in almost before I had a chance to take a picture. A garlic lovers dream! We did turn this into a pasta combo choosing the Mandarin chicken specialty side salad to accompany the pasta. Sautéed boneless, skinless chicken, crisp rice noodles, toasted almonds, sesame seeds, mandarin oranges, romaine lettuce tossed in the freshly made Mandarin dressing—the oranges were so moist, it almost didn’t need any salad dressing; a very refreshing, light and tasty salad.

We thought a sandwich would be nice to try and the menu had quite a few—Gourmet and Classic Sandwiches plus Specialty Wraps! We decided to try the Vegetarian (cheddar, provolone, and Swiss cheeses, avocado, alfalfa sprouts, tomato, lettuce, mayonnaise, Dijon mustard, on a croissant)—my all time favorite cold sandwich as I just love sprouts (very hard to come by)and avocado with cheese! Surprisingly filling and extremely fresh and well balanced creating a great bite! Other sandwiches available were: Turkey Melt, Tri-Tip, French Dip, Chicken Focaccia, Cajun Chicken, Greenhouse Club, Turkey Ciabatta, Tuna, Ham, Roast Beef, Tuna, Buffalo Chicken Wrap and Southwest Chicken Wrap. The special of the day was the prime rib sliders with grilled onions and melted provolone cheese. The sliders looked amazing as the server passed by our table with 2 plates for a couple of diners at the next table! I asked what they thought of them and we got a big thumbs up—my choice for my next visit.

Then for dessert we ordered a slice of mud pie and a slice of carrot cake. And, let me tell you, these were really big slices with lots of whipped cream! The carrot cake was very moist and dense with just a hint of spice—sweetness perfected! The mud pie was absolutely dynamite—chocolate based pie with a crumbly cookie crust full of chocolate ice cream, chocolate fudge sauce and chocolate cookies! Did I say chocolate?! Everyone around us was checking it out as it looked and tasted amazing. There were a few other Dessert choices— Cheesecake, Chocolate Cake and Fresh Hot Cookies (baked daily). However, we were happy with our selections and we thoroughly enjoyed each and every bite.

Beverages are plentiful—Soft drinks; Coffee and Flavored Coffee Drinks; Hot and Cold Tea; Chocolate, Vanilla, Strawberry, Orange-sicle and Root Beer flavored Smoothies; nice variety of Wine; Imported and Domestic Beer with Stella Artois on draft! 

It doesn’t matter what you are in the mood for whether it is soup, salad, sandwich, pasta or just dessert and coffee, there is so much to choose from, that there is literally something for everyone’s palate. It’s amazing how the menu goes on and on with all the different combinations you can make to enjoy an amazing meal— Value Combos (soup & side salad, side salad & half sandwich, soup & sandwich or ALL three—soup, side salad and half sandwich). Pasta Combos (served with toast and pasta and soup or pasta and side specialty salad). And, did you notice the use of Parmesan cheese in almost every dish; it’s even on the thick sliced buttered Texas toast—the perfect garnish!

Open 9am to 8:30 p.m. Saturday through Thursday ,Friday until 9 p.m. Greenhouse Cafe offers dine-in, takeout, online ordering, catering (pick up or delivery) and banquet facilities for parties and meetings. Join the Loyalty and Rewards Club members & earn a 5% rebate.
