‘President Dump’

I hear the president phoned congressman Adam Schiff, who, on January 3, 2019, will become chairman of the House of Intelligence Committee, and told him how he ended up misspelling Schiff’s last name in a Tweet by substituting two ts, where the fs should have been, by saying it was a typo.

Congressman Schiff thanked the president for the call and stated that the president could certainly use some levity these days, considering everything that’s going on and then as the conversation came to an end, Schiff said goodbye, President Dump.

Open the door

On August 5, 1981 President Ronald Reagan fired 11,000 air traffic controllers.

Why? Because they were threatening to go on strike and he believed that it would cause our economy to collapse and that our country would lose billions of dollars.

So far, President Trump has taken it upon himself to shut down our Federal Government workers. The air traffic controllers are federal employees as are all those employees who work for the government on a contract basis.

Not only is this affecting our airline Industry, but all federal employees are either working without pay or not working at all.

All of this because the president wants to build a wall!

Open the door and let those people go to work before we have a catastrophe.

Include the lights

For nearly  45 years, I was a teacher at Palmdale High school and drove down Avenue R to work. I have many letters to the VP on the conditions along that street.

I am so pleased to hear that that street is going to finally get some needed attention and upgrades. Yet they may have missed one very important feature in the city”s improvement plan.

In the area of Palmdale HS, there are no street lights to illuminate the sidewalks. It is very dark on that street at night. Since there are many night activities, street lights will be a welcome addition.

The article in the Antelope Valley Press did not mention street lights but of all the problems along that very busy stretch of Avenue R, the school kids need to be protected.

Over the years, there have been many accidents involving pedestrians and even some deaths.

This upgrade is certainly welcome news if the streetlights are included.

They were conned

I occasionally read letters that indirectly reply to ones I’ve submitted. I wish the authors would put a little more thought into them as I feel I have an unfair advantage as their replies are pretty pathetic.  They mostly come from Trump supporters and as Trump himself said, “I love the uneducated.” And it shows.

Trump has over 6,000 documented lies and misleading statements since he took office and one writer said she prefers his lies. She reveals more about herself than Trump. Other writers keep promoting other lies such as voter fraud even as there has been no evidence of widespread in-person voter fraud. Yet, they repeat the lie in their replies to my letters.

Good thing Democrats outnumber Republicans and in 2020 we might be able to clean house in the Senate as we did in the House of Representatives.

Trump’s base is slowly shrinking. I suspect the last remaining Trump supporters will be found here in the Antelope Valley judging from their letters. Like Hiro Onoda, a soldier who didn’t surrender after WWII until 1974, our local Trump holdouts will be hanging on to his lies decades from now. It’s hard to admit they were conned.....bigly.

Changes

I’m a regular woman, born white, which now makes me a racist. I’m a moral conservative, but by today’s standards, makes me a fascist. I am heterosexual, but according to gay folks, I’m homophobic. I’m non-union, so I’m a traitor to the working class and friends of big business.

I’m Christian, which labels me an infidel. I believe in the 2nd Amendment, so now I’m a member of the gun lobby. I am 78, which makes me a bit less than I used to be. I think, and I reason, therefore I doubt much what the mainstream media says, so I must be a reactionary.

I’m proud of my heritage and our American culture, which makes me a xenophobe. I value my safety and my family’s and appreciate the police and legal system, which makes me a right-wing extremist.

I believe in hard work, fair play and equal opportunity, according to each individual’s ability, which now makes me an anti-socialist.

I believe in the defense and protection of the homeland and it’s citizens, which now makes me a militant. Recently, a sick old woman called me and my friends a basket of deplorables. I thank my friends who stuck with me through these new found challenges in my life and my thinking!

I just can’t imagine or understand what’s happened to me so quickly! Funny...it’s all taken place over just the last 9 or 10 years.

Words, I seldom heard growing up such as, racist, fascist, heterosexual, homophobic, Islamophobic  infidel, reactionary, sexist, xenophobe, extremist, anti-socialist, militant, bigotry, and deplorables, are all front and center.

Where have these words been all my life? ! And now I’m afraid to go into either restrooms!  Am I the one who changed?
