PALMDALE — Quartz Hill High School senior Dorsa Bahmani organized the Fun 5K Charity run/walk on Saturday to benefit Kurdish children in the Middle East.

The event is scheduled from 6 to 8 p.m. at Marie Kerr Park, 39700 30th St. West.

All proceeds will be donated directly to UNICEF to support programs for vulnerable children in the Middle East. The goal is to help a child have cleaner water, more food or shelter.

The charity event is personal to Bahmani, who moved to the Antelope Valley six years ago from Iran,

“I’m Kurdish also; it’s a very personal connection that I have regarding these children in the Middle East,” she said. “I thought that it would be a wonderful opportunity for me to give back to people that I care about.”

Bahmani hopes to raise about $1,000. She is asking for donations of $15 to $20 for adults, and $10 for children 10 and younger.

“Any amount, any dollar will make a difference,” Bahmani said.

Event partners include Quartz Hill High School cross country team and the High Desert Runners.

Fresh water and refreshments will be provided.
