PALMDALE — A 71-year-old woman was killed Wednesday morning in a vehicle vs. pedestrian collision at the intersection of 10th Street West and Marketplace Drive.
The collision occurred at approximately 4:20 a.m. when a 2003 Toyota Camry driven by a 21-year-old female was northbound on 10th Street West and did not see the 71-year-old pedestrian crossing 10th Street West. According to witness statements, the pedestrian was crossing against the red traffic signal, according to a report by Detective Eduard Saucedo of the Palmdale Sheriff Station.
The 71-year-old female pedestrian suffered a fatal head injury and was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Toyota Camry remained at the scene and was cooperative with deputy personnel. There is no indication of whether alcohol or drugs were involved.
Northbound lanes of 10th Street West at Marketplace Drive were closed to routine traffic until 8 a.m. while the incident was being investigated.
The investigation is ongoing.
