Five-car fatal

CRASH AFTERMATH — A five-car collision at Avenue D and 60th Street West late Thursday afternoon killed one person and injured six others.

LANCASTER — One person was killed and six other people were injured Thursday after­noon in a five-vehicle col­lision.

At least one of the injured was freed from the wreckage of the crash, reported about 4:50 p.m. at the intersection of 60th Street West and State Route 138, which also is called Avenue D, authorities said.

One person was pro­nounced dead at the scene, five people sustained moderate injuries and one had minor injuries, the Los Angeles County Fire Department reported.

Two helicopters were used to take patients to a hospital. Others were sent by ambulance, according to the fire department.

All lanes of Route 138 were closed at the intersection following the crash, according to the California Highway Patrol.
