PALMDALE — A knife-wielding man was shot and wounded by a security guard at a McDonald’s restaurant Sunday, according to the sheriff’s department.

The shooting was at a restaurant at 2427 East Ave. S on Sunday afternoon.

Juan Paiz, who owns the security company the guard was working for, told reporters he was still gathering information about the attack.

The attacker crashed a car into a nearby Carl’s restaurant before heading to McDonald’s, witnesses told authorities. The man started stabbing several people in the McDonald’s before the security guard tried to stop him, Paiz told reporters. The man then tried to stab the guard and that’s when the guard fired at him.

The wounded man was then taken to a hospital for treatment. His name was not released by the sheriff’s department.
