PALMDALE — Deputies from the Palmdale and Lancaster Sheriff’s stations will gather this week to meet and talk with community members over coffee.

The monthly “Coffee with a Cop” gatherings provide an opportunity for community members to ask questions and learn more about the Sheriff’s Department’s work in their respective neighborhoods.

Community members can join Palmdale Sheriff Station deputies at 9 a.m. Wednesday at Camacho Auto Sales, 412 Auto Vista Drive, in the Palmdale Auto Mall.

Deputies from the Lancaster Sheriff’s Station will meet the community from 8 to 10 a.m. Thursday at Crazy Otto’s Diner, 1228 West Ave. I. Deputies will share new information with the public including the new Shake Alert LA app and earthquake safety tips. There are a few new laws for 2019 in California as well. Deputies will be on hand to any questions.

The gatherings are being organized because the majority of contacts between law enforcement officers and members of the public happen during emergencies, or emotional situations. Those situations are not always the most effective times for relationship building with the community, and some community members may feel that deputies are unapproachable on the street.
