PALMDALE — A burglary suspect was injured Friday when shot by someone in the house they had illegally entered, Los Angeles County Sheriff’s deputies at the Palmdale Station said.
The station received a call at 10:56 a.m. regarding a burglary that had just occurred in 37000 block of Moondance Drive. The caller said he had shot the suspect.
Deputies responded to the house and found the caller with his mother and sister, who said the suspect entered the house and began advancing toward his mother, who screamed and warned that someone was inside the residence.
As the mother attempted to retreat up a staircase, the caller warned the suspect to leave the house and that he was armed. The suspect started up the staircase. Fearing for their safety, the caller fired a warning shot and told the suspect to leave, deputies said.
When he continued advancing up the staircase, the caller fired again, this time striking him in the right arm, and the suspect fled.
Los Angeles County Fire Department personnel were contacted by deputies when they were called to treat a gunshot victim on Stardust Place, in the same neighborhood as the attempted burglary. The gunshot victim was detained and positively identified by the attempted burglary victim as the person he had shot.
The suspect was treated for non-life threatening injuries at a local medical facility, deputies said.
No one else was injured in the incident.
