LANCASTER (CNS) — A woman was struck by a car and killed Friday near a Lancaster intersection, authorities said.

It happened at about 9:15 p.m. Friday on Avenue J just south of Challenger Way, according to Lt. Jonathan Hoyt of the Lancaster Sheriff’s Station.

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene, Hoyt said.

The driver of the car remained at the scene, he said.

The fatality is the 12th involving a pedestrian this year in the Antelope Valley and the fourth in two weeks. The last one was Tuesday on Challenger Way near Avenue L-4.
