LANCASTER — Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Homicide detectives are investigating a fatal shooting in Lancaster Monday night, apparently the result of an armed robbery attempt.
Deputies were called to the 76 gas station in the 500 block of West Avenue J shortly before 8:30 p.m., Monday for a reported assault which left behind a gunshot victim.
When they arrived, they found a man with gunshot wounds to his upper body. Sean Searcy, 30, of Lancaster was pronounced dead at the scene. An autopsy to determine the cause of death is pending, according to the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner-Coroner’s office, who identified the man Tuesday.
The suspect in what the initial investigators believe was an armed robbery, was seen fleeing the scene on foot, running north down an alley.
He is described as a white man with a thin build, wearing a purple patterned face mask or similar covering, a black hooded sweatshirt and dark blue pants, officials said.
No weapon was recovered.
The incident does not appear to be gang related, investigators said.
Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Homicide Bureau at 323-890-5500.
