MOJAVE — Kern County Sheriff’s deputies shot and killed a man in Mojave on Monday, the second such shooting in the small community in three days.

Deputies responded at about 2:30 p.m., Monday to a disturbing the peace call involving a woman and her adult son in the 3000 block of Pat Avenue, the Kern County Sheriff’s office reported.

The deputies determined the woman was a victim of assault and learned that there were multiple firearms inside the house where the suspect, a 50-year-old man, was located.

After obtaining an arrest warrant, the deputies made multiple attempts to get the man to surrender, but he did not respond, Sheriff’s officials said.

As deputies attempted to serve the warrant, he began shooting at deputies from inside the house.

They returned fire, shooting the man, who was pronounced dead at the scene, officials said.

No deputies were injured.

Three deputies were placed on routine administrative leave as a result of the shooting.

On Saturday, Kern County Sheriff’s deputies fatally shot a man who fought with them when they were called to a disturbance at the Family Dollar store in the 2300 block of Business Route 58, shortly after 11:30 a.m. A man was reportedly refusing to leave the store, according to the

Sheriff’s Office.

When deputies contacted the man at the scene, he became combative and a physical alteration took place, which eventually led to the shooting, officials said.

Deputies and paramedics responding to the scene performed life-saving measures, but the man was declared dead.

Deputies were injured during the fight, but the injuries are not life threatening, officials said.

Homicide detectives are investigating both of these cases.
