LANCASTER — Antelope Valley College will hold a virtual commencement at 7:30 p.m., Aug. 14 rather than an in-person event as originally planned because of rising COVID-19 cases in the Antelope Valley, Los Angeles County and statewide.

“We realize that for some this is disappointing news and not ideal,” AV College President Ed Knudson wrote in a  message to graduates posted on the college’s website at www.avc.edu “We were very much looking forward to celebrating your accomplishments in person. However, we know it is important that we continue to safely mark milestones in special ways.”

Graduates who plan to join the college for the virtual commencement were asked to submit their information to be included in the ceremony no later than Aug. 7. They will need to log in using AVC credentials. For details, email studentlife@avc.edu

Administrators expect to award more than 3,000 degrees and certificates for the Class of 2020. Some students earned more than one degree or certificate.
