LANCASTER — Los Angeles County Sheriff’s homicide detectives are investigating the death of a 53-year-old man in Lancaster on Wednesday morning.

Lancaster Sheriff Station deputies responded to a report of an assault with a deadly weapon at about 1:30 a.m. in the 200 block of East Avenue K. Once there, they found the man on the ground and unresponsive.

He was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead, officials said.

The preliminary investigation found the man was approach by three Black men, one of whom punched him in the face. The man fell to the ground, where deputies later found him, and the three men ran from the scene.

Investigators do not know if the incident was gang-related, officials said.

The investigation is ongoing.
