LANCASTER — The City Council will conduct a public hearing today to introduce an ordinance to amend the municipal code in regard to the city’s Art in Public Places program.

The Council will also consider adding a director’s review fee to the citywide fee schedule for applications for Public Art on Private Property permits.

Last November the City Council approved the proposed Art in Public Places Program and Manual in order to establish guidelines and processes for public art provided by the public sector.

The program will draw 1% from new capital improvement projects to go toward public art projects on public property. The proposed director’s review fee will offset staff time in reviewing applications for Public Art on Private Property permits, according to a staff report by Parks, Recreation and Arts Director Jeff Campbell.

The City Council meets at 5 p.m. in council chambers at City Hall, 44933 Fern Ave.
