LANCASTER — The City Council unanimously agreed to sell a 11.4-acre vacant parcel of land near the Antelope Valley Freeway to Green Valley Land Management LLC for $1.045 million for the development of a family-friendly restaurant.

The property is near Avenue K-8 and 15th Street West between the Sunset Ridge Apartments and the Lancaster Auto Mall.  

The yet-to-be identified restaurant will be developed on 2.5 acres of the property with the rest of the property to be developed over time.

“It was very important to them to have freeway visibility and there are limited properties available that are vacant with freeway visibility, so they were very excited to find this parcel,” Chenin Dow, assistant to the City Manager, said at the June 25 City Council meeting, according to archived video.

The City purchased the land from the Successor Agency to the Redevelopment Agency for future development.

Meanwhile the eyesore that was Smart & Final, ToysRus & Hometown Buffet continues to look like Detroit. Why not do something with that? It's right at the end of the Ave K off ramp... Or does this idea make too much sense?
