PALMDALE — A grass fire erupted about 5 p.m. Tuesday in the 500 block of east Avenue R-8, diverting northbound traffic along Sierra Highway and delaying a Metrolink train.

The fire burned two acres before Los Angeles County Fire Department firefighters stopped its forward progress after about 30 minutes, L.A, County Fire Dispatch Supervisor Art Marrujo said. Five engine companies, a water tender, a water-dropping helicopter and two hand-crews battled the blaze.

There were no injuries reported or buildings damaged.
