PASADENA (CNS) — Police on Saturday said a suspect has been arrested in connection with the stabbing death of a man that prompted the lockdown of a school and forced area residents to shelter in place.
The suspect has been identified as Telly R. Johnson, 41, of Los Angeles, said Pasadena Police Lt. Jason Clawson.
Byron Young Nettles, 52, was stabbed at 9:05 a.m. Friday in front of an apartment building, according to Pasadena Police Department spokeswoman Lisa Derderian.
Paramedics took Nettles to a hospital, where he later died from his wounds, Clawson said.
Nettles lived in and managed the apartment building, according to media reports, but it was unclear whether Johnson had any connection to the building or the victim.
“Robbery-homicide detectives responded to the scene for further investigation,” Clawson said. “Preliminary investigation suggests the incident was not random in nature. A motive for the stabbing remains under investigation.”
Officers set up a perimeter containment to search for Johnson, who fled on foot, Derderian said.
