LOS ANGELES (AP) — An arraignment was scheduled yesterday for a Southern California man suspected of shooting and killing his pregnant wife and then fleeing to Mexico two years ago, prosecutors said.

Ana Nunez and her unborn fetus both died after the 37-year-old woman was found shot in her El Monte home on Aug. 29, 2018.

Her husband, Octavio Curiel Martinez, was arrested in Mexico last June and extradited to Los Angeles on January 3.

Martinez, 37, faces multiple charges including murder and murder of a human fetus, the Angeles County District Attorney’s Office said. It wasn’t known if he has an attorney.

After shooting Nunez, Martinez allegedly drove to his parents’ house nearby and shot at his father and mother while two children were inside the residence, prosecutors said. Nobody was hurt in the second incident.

If convicted as charged, Martinez faces a maximum sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole.
