PARAMOUNT (CNS) — The Coroner’s Office on Saturday released the name of a 38-year-old man who was shot dead during an apparent robbery outside a bank in a shopping center.

The shooting victim was identified as Abd Alla Thabet, according to the coroner’s office.

Thabet was pronounced dead at the scene of the shooting, which occurred just before 11 a.m. Friday in the 15900 block of Paramount Boulevard, the Sheriff’s Information Bureau reported.

The shooting appeared to have occurred as Thabet struggled with two men during a robbery, although that has not been confirmed, Sheriff’s Homicide Bureau Lt. Charles Calderaro told reporters.

Thabet was a well-known area businessman who frequently used the Bank of America branch near the shooting scene, according to ABC7.
