Public Service

Your local newspaper is more than news and advertising. It's a community service organization, a vital local economic resource and an instrument for change in the community.

Here at the Antelope Valley Press, we encourage and support the positive involvement of our people in the community. Throughout the Valley Press there is a high level of community involvement and volunteer activity in a whole array of good causes, from non-profit agency directorships and civic club membership to youth sports coaching and teaching Sunday School. Among the many organizations the Valley Press supports are The United Way, YMCA, Grace Resources, Red Cross, March of Dimes, the AV Children's Center and Desert Haven Enterprises and 4-H clubs of Antelope Valley.

The newspaper also shows its support through a variety of local sponsorships, including AV's local baseball team, the Lancaster Jethawks; the Antelope Valley Board of Trade Business Outlook Conference; Palmdale's Fall Festival and Lancaster's Poppy Festival, and selected shows at the Lancaster Performing Arts Center.

The Valley Press also supports the drug- and alcohol-related programs of MADD and SADD, and participates in Red Ribbon Week.

At Christmastime, the Valley Press and its employees support our local organizations and needy children, both as a company and as individuals. The paper also supports area chambers of commerce and local schools.
