-ADMINISTRATION-

Computer Services Manager

The Antelope Valley Press is seeking an individual to assume a Newspaper Computer Services support leadership position at our daily community newspaper. Successful candidate must have knowledge of Macintosh, Windows, Linux and Solaris operating systems with skills in SQL, Progress and Sybase to manage a 200-node, two-site network and staff technicians. 

Position requires an experienced, problem solving, diversified, self-starter who can trouble shoot and move projects forward.  Position is liaison between all departments and system vendors as well as support for telephone system, newspaper publishing system and newspaper business system and general office Microsoft and Macintosh software. Also requires database knowledge and support for email, web site and intranet site.  Must be able to support scripting tasks for data interchange between systems using a mixture of Shell, Perl and Python. Knowledge of Digital Technology and Publishing Business Systems preferred.

Classified Advertising Inside and Outside Sales

The Antelope Valley Press is looking for creative, outgoing, self-motivated sales professionals with strong communication, presentation, negotiation, and interpersonal skills to help clients place their ads in our newspaper.  The successful candidates will be detail-oriented team players with excellent relationship building and communication skills with the ability to work well under deadline pressure.  Sales experience required; advertising or newspaper experience a plus.  Salary plus commission plus excellent benefit package.

 

Retail Advertising Inside/Outside Sales

The Antelope Valley Press is looking for a sales professional to fill a full-time inside and outside sales position in retail advertising.  Must be a detail oriented team player with excellent relationship building and communication skills with the ability to work well under deadline pressure.  Requirements include high school diploma, basic math and computer skills.  Sales experience required.  Advertising or newspaper experience a plus.  Salary plus commission plus excellent benefit package.

- CIRCULATION - 


Circulation Utility

This is a part-time position at our main Palmdale facility with early morning hours.  The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:  counting and lifting bundles, loading vehicles, driving cube truck to satellite drop offs, cleaning dock, sorting and distributing proper paperwork.

Requirements include:

  • Basic math and record keeping skills
  • Positive attitude and good people skills
  • Good communication skills
  • Ability to lift at least 60 lbs. repetitively
  • Valid driver's license and proof of current auto insurance required.
  • Clean DMV record - three year DMV printout must be presented with application/resume.

 

Newsstand Service Route

Part-time position working early morning hours distributing newspapers to rack locations and dealer accounts.  Shift starts at 12 midnight and ends at 5 a.m.

Requirements include:

  • Completing and maintaining accurate records.
  • Ability to lift at least 50 lbs. repetitively
  • Valid driver's license and proof of current auto insurance required.
  • Clean DMV record - three year DMV printout must be presented with application/resume.


-DISTRBUTION-

Inserter

The Valley Press is looking for a few good employees to become a part of our Distribution Department.  Candidates must be responsible and dependable.  These positions are responsible for inserting advertising inserts into the Antelope Valley Press newspapers.  Immediate openings are available for part-time positions.  Day, night and weekend shifts are available in our Palmdale plant.  Must be available to work Saturday nights.

Requirements include:

  • Good communication skills
  • Ability to bend, stand, walk and lift at least 30 lbs.

 

- MARKETING -

Marketing Manager

The Antelope Valley Press is seeking a creative, organized, self-motivated individual to lead our Marketing/Advertising Operations Departments.  Must be adept at multi-tasking and be deadline driven.  Individual should enjoy working in a collaborative, creative and fast paced environment. You will work on a variety of projects from brochures, logo design, page layout and ad design. You must be able to jump right in with current projects already in progress.  The ideal candidate will have a creative sense of typography and page layout and knowledge of print production.  Proficiency in Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator a must.  Experience in web design is not mandatory but a definite plus.  The successful candidate will have a minimum of 5 years supervisory experience and a Bachelor’s degree in Design/Marketing.  Send resume and portfolio to personnel@avpress.com, fax to (661) 267-4284, or mail to Antelope Valley Press, P.O. - OPERATIONS -

 Machine Operator

The Antelope Valley Press has a full-time position in our Distribution Department.  The successful candidate will be responsible for setting up insert equipment, monitoring, troubleshooting and repairing hoppers and downstream equipment, and maintaining insert equipment.  Other responsibilities include, but are not limited to, training and monitoring insert crew for a safe and efficient insert operation; conducting preventative maintenance checks before, during, and after runs; and record and communicate equipment conditions.  Salary range is negotiable depending on experience.  Requirements include:  High School Diploma or GED; Basic math, reading, and communication skills; Current Driver License and proof of current auto insurance required; Mechanical experience a must; Ability to bend, stand, walk, and lift at least 50 lbs.
