GRENIER, Charles Francis
GRENIER, Charles Francis Born on October 8, 1918, in Providence, R.I., passed away on July 21, 2018, in Palmdale, Calif. The second youngest of seven children, Charles spent his childhood in his hometown of Providence before relocating to Southern California after World War II. During the war, Charles served in the 878th Bombardment Squadron of the US Army Air Force as a co-pilot of a B-29 Superfortress in the Pacific. After the war, he briefly served as both a police officer for the San Bernardino Police Department and US Postman before spending the remaining 36 years of his career as an Electrical Technician for NASA at the Flight Research Center on Edwards AFB during the Apollo and Space Shuttle programs. He received several awards and commendations during his time at NASA and was recognized for his unmatched troubleshooting abilities and inventiveness. Charles, known to his family as Papa, spent his golden years with his loved ones, splitting his time between Lancaster and his home in Everett, Wash. He will be remembered for his kindness, sense of humor, generosity, and ability to find himself to be the funniest person in any room. Charles is survived by his best friend and wife of 71 years, Virginia, his four children: Gae, Charles (Rick), Lynne, Joel, and their families, including nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He will be greatly missed. A viewing will be at Joshua Memorial Mortuary on Monday, July 30, from 3:00-7:00 pm, located at 808 E. Lancaster Blvd. Burial will take place at the Riverside National Cemetery at 10:45 am located at 22495 Van Buren Blvd, Riverside.
