ROWLES, James E.
ROWLES, James E. James "Jim" Rowles longtime resident, and educator of Lancaster passed away peacefully after a short battle with cancer on July 6, 2018 in Camarillo, Calif. Jim was born on November 22, 1932 in Clearfield, Pa. to Sheldon and Gussie Rowles. Jim the second of four children andgraduated from Clearfield High School in 1950. Jimserved in the United States Navy from 1951 until 1955, and after the Navy Jim continued his education and obtained his Bachelors degree from Indiana University of Pennsylvania in 1959. Jim's major was in secondary education, and high school education became his calling for the rest of his life. Jim moved his family to Lancaster in 1966, and for the next 31 years worked as a teacher as well asguidance counselor for the Antelope Valley High School District. Jim obtained his Masters degree from Cal State Northridge in Secondary Guidance Education in 1968. This led him to become Head Guidance Counselor at Quartz Hill High Schoolin the mid seventies, a position he held until his retirement in 1997. Jim was a very humble man who had not one vain bone in his body. Though his life contained numerous accomplishments, and accolades he would only want mentioned his love for the games of golf, and bridge. Jim was preceded in death by his wife Joyce Hoover Rowles in September 1994,herself a long time resident of Lancaster. Jim remarried in 1999 and was also preceded in death by his second wife Patricia Rowles in 2016. Jim is survived by his two children. Beth Stevens of Lancaster, and Chris Rowles of Camarillo. Further Jim is survived by his two grandchildren Amber Rowles of Lancaster, and William Rowles of Las Vegas. Jim's three siblings also survive him. Louise Blitz of Phoenix, Ariz., John Rowles of Clearfield, Pa., and Aaron Rowles of North Tonawanda, N.Y. A memorial to honor Jim's life will be held at the Lancaster United Methodist Church on September 29, 2018 at 10:30 am. All who knew him are welcome to attend.
