MEDINA, Carlos Gilbert
MEDINA, Carlos Gilbert Korean War Veteran, passed away on July 9, 2018, in Lancaster, Calif. Born on June 6, 1932 in Los Angeles, California to Albert Medina and Josephine Candelaria Medina. He served as a Staff Sergeant in the US Army during the Korean Conflict from November 9, 1950 to 1953, reenlisted, was honorably discharged in 1958. Medina received numerous commendations for his service, one of which was at Heartbreak Ridge. Mr. Medina was honored as a 'Hometown Hero' from the City of Lancaster. He was proud of a letter that he received, thanks to Jin Hur of Crazy Otto's, from the Republic of Korea, proclaiming him an 'Ambassador for Peace' stating in part, 'It is a great honor and pleasure to express the everlasting gratitude of the Republic of Korea and our people for the service you and your countrymen have performed in restoring and preserving our freedom and democracy√Č in helping us reestablish our Free Nation.' He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Sheila Johnson Medina, their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Also, previous wife, Janet Lynn Miller, their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Mr. Medina will be interred at Riverside National Cemetery in Riverside, Calif, with full military honors on Tuesday, July 24 at 2:15 pm.
