DORN, Richard (Dick) Arnold
DORN, Richard (Dick) Arnold July 9, 1930 to May 31, 2018. Dick Dorn, a long time Green Valley resident passed away from natural causes on May 31, at the age of 87. He lived in Pasadena until age 13 and in Green Valley after that for close to 75 years. He retired after 36 years in the fire service from LA County Fire Department, where he served for many years supervising fire crews and finished his career as an Arson Investigator for the department. Prior to that, he worked for the US Forest Service as the first Superintendent of the Texas Canyon Hotshots. He served in the Air force in Alaska during the Korean War and was not fond of snow after that. He was an alumni of AV High School class of 1949. He was an accomplished singer from childhood and a lifetime music lover. Dick enjoyed racing cars at Willow Springs in his younger years and on canyon roads later. His hobbies included running, which he did into his 70's, fishing, collecting wine and of course singing whenever a chance came up. He is survived by his sons, Ranger Dorn of Oak View, Calif., Walt Dorn of Moorpark, Calif., as well as five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. He is also survived by a community of caregivers and supporters in Green Valley, who made it possible for him to live out his later years in the valley he loved. We wish to thank them all for that gift. We also wish to thank LA County Fire Department for the care, respect and professionalism they provided to our father.
