CABILTES, Alfonso O. , DDS
CABILTES, Alfonso O. , DDS 80 of Palmdale, Calif. died at Antelope Valley Hospital in Lancaster early Thursday, November 27, 2017. Born on March 16, 1937, in Makati, Philippines, Dr. Cabiltes was an orphan of World War II and was educated under the Veterans Dependent Educational Benefits Program. He graduated from both the University of Illinois, in Chicago and the University of the East in Manila Philippines with a Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree. Dr. Cabiltes served in the United States Army Dental Corps as a Reserve Officer from 1976 to 1979. He practiced General Dentistry from 1971 to 2000 and served as president of the Philippine Dental Society of the Midwest in 1976 and 1977. Since moving to the Antelope Valley in 1985, he was one of the founders of the Filipi no-American Association of the Antelope Valley and served as president in 1990 and 1991. Dr. Cabiltes was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 2455 in Lancaster and served as a 4th Degree Knight. Dr. Cabiltes enjoyed many activities such as playing golf, gardening, going to Las Vegas, playing his saxophone and clarinet, but mostly, he loved spending time with family and friends. He will always be remembered as a generous, kind-hearted, loving and jolly soul. Dr. Cabiltes was a loving and devoted husband to Dr. Thelma Fernandez-Cabiltes for over 32 years, father to daughters Janessa (Michael) Lang, Rochelle (Gary) Simkins, stepfather to Jo (Maria) Fernandez, Suzanne (Stephen) Rakoski, and Elaine (Michael) Sluzenski. Grandfather to Rachel, Dominic, Gary, Tyler, Nolan, Corbin, Naomi, Stephen, David, AJ, Ella, and Liam. Dr. Cabiltes also leaves behind numerous relatives and friends who loved him and his zest for life. A viewing will be held at Joshua Memorial Park and Mortuary in Lancaster on Thursday, December 14th from 5pm-9pm. A memorial mass will be held at Sacred Heart Church in Lancaster on Friday, December 15th at 10am. A private inurnment will occur at a later date at Good Shepherd Catholic Cemetery in Lancaster.
