She raised the four boys on her own after a divorce in 1963, working as a secretary for several educational institutions, including Palmdale High School. Essie was compassionate, loved to laugh and found humor in most situations. She was well-loved and will be missed by her family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, son Randal Coupland, great granddaughter Brianna Rodrigues, brothers Baby Clayton, RC Clayton, Claude Clayton, Keith Clayton and Ron Clayton. Essie is survived by her brother Glen (and Carryl) Clayton, sons Phillip III (and Darelle) Coupland, Michael Coupland, and Paris (and Sue) Coupland, along with 8 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
