BISHOP, James Jim David
BISHOP, James "Jim" A longtime resident of Lancaster, Jim went to be with our Heavenly Father on October 15, 2017. Jim was born on May 16, 1934 in Endicott, N.Y. to Charles and Gladys. Following high school, he joined the Army, serving during the Korean War from 1953 to 1956 and earning National Defense Service and Good Conduct medals. After serving his country, Jim went to work for Lockheed as an Engineer Mechanic for almost three decades and earned an Associates of Science degree at Glendale Community College. After he retired, he was ready for a life of leisure.He relished spending time as an ornithologist and numismatist. His love for show pigeons kept him busy for most of his retirement years, enjoying events across the United States and reminiscing with other pigeon enthusiasts, which became dear friends over the years. He was a Baptist and enjoyed attending church.He was preceded in death by his wife, Nancy. He leaves behind one sister, Dorothy Iverson of Mayer, Minn; brother Lew Bishop and wife Rita of Bentonville, Ark.; brother Ken Bishop and wife Susan of Moriarty, N.M.; many nieces and nephews; and his seven children, James Bishop of Cherokee, Calif; Richard Bishop of Bakersfield, Calif; Debra Handy of Tehachapi, Calif; April Peron and husband Bill of Cal Nev Ari, Nev; Terry Bishop and wife Susan of California City, Calif; and Laura Ann Bishop of Bakersfield, Calif. He is also survived by his dear grandchildren Andy Bishop, Wesley Bishop and wife Michelle, Courtney Bishop, Justin Bishop, Amanda Bishop, Justin Handy and Brett Handy and many fur-children. Jim's final resting place will be at the Bakersfield National Cemetery in Arvin, Calif. on Oct. 25, 2017 at 10:45 am.
