COLLINS, Barbara
COLLINS, Barbara a long time resident of Lancaster, died Thursday, October 5, 2017, at the age of 86. She was born on June 16, 1931, in Pelville, Kentucky, to John Vince Newman and Mary Etta Burdette Newman. She was the youngest of six children. Barbara married David F. Collins on January 3, 1950, and had three children, Tara, David and Tammy. Barbara was preceded in death by her husband David in 1985 and her daughter Tammy in 2015. Barbara is survived by her children and their spouses Tara and James Buchberger of Pleasant Grove, California, David and Mary Collins of Lancaster, California, her grandchildren: Woodrow, Erin, Kelly, Andrew, Keith, Jonathan, Zachary and Emily. Barbara was also blessed with her great grandchildren: Mia, Kayla, Ella, Cameron, Ashlynn, Evan, Mackay, Morgan, Bailey, Shane, Russell. Noah, Eli, Simon, and two more due shortly. Barbara worked in the early days of long distance telephones as a switchboard operator for the telephone company in Idaho Falls and Cheyenne. After moving to Lancaster, she worked for General Electric at Edwards AFB, A.V. Blueprint, and at Sears both at 10th and K and at the Mall. When she finally retired, she continued to serve by volunteering at Sierra Elementary School where she helped students and teachers at the school all three of her children had attended. Barbara was an outgoing person with a contagious smile and wonderful sense of humor. She was strong, independent and sometimes a stubborn woman who will be missed by all who knew her. The family would like to thank Amy Frey and her staff at Excellent Home Care, the staff at A.V. Retirement Villas, as well as the ProCare Hospice staff who cared for her so well. There will be a viewing at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 14, 2017 at the Joshua Memoria] Park chapel followed at 2:00 p.m. by a funeral service for those who might wish to pay their respects.
