MILLER, John L. Born July 3, 1931, Los Angeles, Calif., passed away Aug. 3, 2017 Lancaster, Calif. John grew up in Long Beach, Calif., and attended Long Beach College. He was in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. John lived in the Antelope Valley for 60 years from 1957. Johns career began as a teacher for Lancaster School District in 1957, he became vice-principal, then principal, served as a temporary assistant- superintendent. He became a School Board member in 1996, finally resigning in 2016. John achievments were, AV Newsmaker 1976, US Olympic Committee School Liason for Calif., Off-road race car driver, skier, and traveler. In 2009, the 'John and Jacquelyn Miller Elementary School' was opened in Lancaster, Calif. John was a man who was committed to the education of children and the growth of the teachers around him. He was also a dedicated prankster -- as numerous friends will attest -- and a quiet musician, whose works include a musical for children and a lullaby still sung by his own grown children. John is survived by his wife of 58 years, Jacquelyn Miller. He is also survived by his daughter Robin Miller, son John Miller III, and daughter and son-in-law Lia and Matt Nelson. Grandchildren are Neal and Mark Owen, Andrew, Stephen, Caleb and Catherine Jaqua, Lucas and Joshua Nelson, and John Miller IV, Calen, Kelsie and Jessica Miller. Great-grandchildren are Autumn Owen, Sierra Owen and Nicholas DeVito. A Memorial Celebration of Life will be held at Miller Elementary School, 43420 22nd St. W., Lancaster, August 26, 2017, at 2p.m.
