SOWELL, Joseph Jay
SOWELL, Joseph 'Jay' Jan. 31, 1932 - Jun. 16, 2017 Jay passed away after a brief illness. Born in Virginia, he attended VPI. Upon graduating, he was commissioned a Second LT in the Air Force. After college he went to work for Lockheed in Ga., until his call up to active duty. He spent three years in flight training at bases in Ariz., Okla., and at San Angelo, Texas where son Brent was born. Upon his discharge, he returned to Ga., and Lockheed. He and his family came to Calif. for the C5A test program and stayed when he accepted a job in Palmdale to work on the L1011, retiring in 1990. Jay loved planes, woodworking, reading and coached youth sports. he was generous with donations to family, missions and charities. Survived by wife of 63 years, Helen; sons: Brent (Stacy), Mark Scott; daughter, Dedrie Felix and grandchildren: Allison (Anthony) Defranco, Kristin (Evan) Bullard, Skyler and Schaefer Felix and great-grandson Miles Bullard. Services will be Tuesday, June 27, 2017 at Joshua Memorial Park. Viewing will be at 10:00 am with a memorial service at 11:00 am, burial to follow. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to any animal shelter. www.joshuamortuary.com
