WILLIS, Marilyn Kitty
WILLIS, Marilyn 'Kitty' June 27, 1933 - May 11, 2017 Long time Valley resident Marilyn 'Kitty' Willis passed away peacefully at home with her daughter by her side. Born June 27, 1933 in Little Rock, Arkansas to George and Frances Smith, she moved to Pasadena, Calif. at age 7 with her parents and older sister, Patricia. Known as Kitty since infancy, her family moved to Lancaster in 1945. Lancaster was a tiny community at that time and Kitty made friends with her schoolmates quickly, many of them life-long friends to this day. Kitty had many happy experiences during these years. She still recalled hearing the first sonic boom created by an aircraft when Chuck Yeager broke the sound barrier over the Antelope Valley in 1947. A 1951 graduate of AV High School, Kitty was active in sports and the majorettes. While attending Antelope Valley Junior College, she met her future husband Orville Willis. Marilyn and Orville were married in 1954 and soon thereafter started a family. A stay at home mom, there was nothing she enjoyed more than raising her son and daughter. She attended every Little League game or Girl Scout or cheerleading function. After her children were raised, Kitty entered the work force. For nearly 20 years, she was a bookkeeper for the Newhall Water District. Tiring of the long commute, she changed careers and became a real estate agent for Coldwell Banker a Hartwig Company in Lancaster, a job she loved and worked at up until a month before she died, too weakened by the cancer that claimed her after a tough fight. A voracious reader, Kittys mind stayed sharp till the end. A generous spirit, she never forgot a birthday or anniversary, and loved to buy presents for others. She also enjoyed attending the movies with her friends and the casinos in Las Vegas and in the Portland, Oregon area when visiting her daughters family. Kitty took her greatest pleasure in her children and grandchildren who will miss her very much. Preceded in death by her parents and sister, Patricia, Marilyn is survived by her son Patrick(Adriana) Willis, daughter Stacy (Steve) Ellison, and her four gandsons: Seth, Sean and Scott Ellison and Dennis (Alexa) Conforti, niece Cynthia (Matthew) James, life-long friends: Pat and Roland Duhart and Patsy Jost, as well as her second family at Coldwell Banker. Graveside services will be held at 11 am, June 2, 2017 at Lancaster Cemetery, 111 East Lancaster Blvd.
