Merritt, James
MERRITT, James Marshall Jul. 5, 1944 - Mar. 12, 2017 passed away Sun., in Lancaster, Calif., 3 years and 3 days after his beloved, late wife Barbara. Born to Mary and Elbert Marshall Merritt in Ill., Jim grew up on a farm. After graduating high school, he began working for Waste Management. He was married for 22 years and divorced for 7 when he accepted a job transfer and moved to Lancaster, Calif. It was there he met and married his greatest love, Barbara, on May 26, 1993. They enjoyed a happy and fulfilling life together, spending time at their cabin in Big Bear, taking day trips, weekends in Las Vegas, vacations to Hawaii, Dodger games, and hosting holiday celebrations with family. Jim enjoyed a long and successful career before retiring. He is described by former workers as the 'best boss they ever had'. Jim and Barbara spent their retirement in Calif. City, Calif., where they doted on their 3 pups, Shadow, Maggie and Sammie Joe and lived close to Jim's, son-in-law Ron(Renee). After the devastating loss of his wife, Jim found solace in his faith and spent many of his final days with loyal neighbor and best friend Dave Hunsinger. Preceded in death by his wife, father and mother, Jim is survived by brother, William; children: Anthony, and Lora; grandchildren: Kindle, Hailey, Obediah, Hanna and Leah; 7 step-children: Pamela Campbell, Tamora Rubio, Deborah Marshall, Patricia Wilson, Ronald Rubio, Jeanne Negvesky, Jeffrey Ober and several grandchildren and great- grandchildren. Viewing will be Fri., Mar. 24, 2017, 4:00-7:00pm, Joshua Memorial Park and Mortuary, 800 E. Lancaster Blvd, Lancaster, Calif., 93535. Services, officiated by Pastor Smith, will be at the same location, Sat., Mar. 25, 2017,at 2:00pm and followed by a graveside ceremony.
