HUNT, Lillian May
HUNT, Lilian May (Page) 94, passed away peacefully on Dec. 10, 2016, at her Palmdale, Calif. home surrounded by her immediate family. Born May 23, 1922 in Barton, Eccles, Greater Manchester, England, she was the eldest of 6 children to Henry and May Page (Wiekert). Although she spent most of her life in Calif., she always remained a 'Lancashire Lass'. She is preceded in death by her firstborn son Alan, sister Margaret, brother Harry and husband of 56 years, Charlie. She was married during World War II, on Feb. 19, 1944 to British soldier Charles Hunt. They resided in Salford, England where their children were born before the family immigrated to the U.S. in 1955, first settling in Gardena, Calif. Lilian was outgoing, fun loving and enjoyed entertaining, most of the time being the life of the party. She had a loving, generous heart and when people met her, they immediately felt like part of the 'family', forging friendships that lasted her lifetime. Lil had a myriad of jobs, from manufacturing work to card club cocktail waitress. After becoming an American citizen in 1966, she worked for McDonnell Douglas and Northrop, finishing her career at McDonnell Douglas. After retirement, Charlie convinced her to move to Weldon near Lake Isabella, Calif. It was too secluded for her 'larger than life' personality so they moved for the last time to to the 'bright lights' of Palmdale. It was here that she found another family of friends with the Daughters of the British Empire - Royal Windsor Chapter, Moose Lodge, British Breakfast Club, ladies knitting circle, and her ladies golfing club. She and her friends also entertained at local convalescent homes, where ironically, most of the guests were younger than her. Lil is survived by sisters: Doreen Southworth; Hilda Baker; brother, Bob (Hazel) Page; sons: Colin (Laura Loew) Hunt, Phillip Hunt ; daughter Linda Birgel; five grandchildren: Michelle Grondorf (Dirk), Kevin Hunt (Jackie), Brian Hunt (Angie), Dennis Taylor and Shannon Hunt (Rich); great- grandchildren: Karissa, Zach, Adam, Bryce, Jacob and Ayden; great-great grandchildren: Jake, Gabe and Sera. Mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin and dear friend to many will be truly missed. A private celebration of Mums life will be held in Palmdale on Feb. 18, 2017.
