HORNING, William Henry Jun. 22, 1930-Jan. 28, 2017 The Horning family is sad to announce the passing of William Henry Horning, beloved brother, uncle, husband, father, and grandfather, on Sat., Jan. 28, 2017. Bill is survived by wife Heather (nŽe Freeman) Horning, 8 children, 26 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren and 3 sisters. He is preceded in death by parents, James Jay Horning and Jesse Alma (nŽe Sears) Horning; a brother, two sisters, and a niece. Bill graduated from Laytonville High School in Oregon, served in the US Military in his youth, and graduated from Oregon State University with a BS in Mathematics, and pilot school with training in fixed wing and helicopter aircraft. He worked as a ferry pilot for many years, delivering small aircraft to buyers all over the world. He transported VIPs, diplomats, and others, throughout the continent of Africa. He herded game animals onto preserves using his skills as a helicopter pilot, and he worked as a contract pilot for various entities such as open pit diamond mines. Most recently, he worked for Boeing, Lockheed, and Rockwell in the Antelope Valley, and later, for the Sheriffs Department in South LA. Bill Horning was a man of great empathy and wit, known for his sense of humor and affection, by those who were close to him. His strength of will, combined with optimism and many prayers of friends and family, allowed him to survive a heart attack and two strokes until the age of 86 years. Bills wife, children, and their families in the Antelope Valley and Santa Clarita regions, humbly give thanks to God for the years of memories Bill Horning was allowed to build with them. They hope to carry on their lives in a manner that honors his unflinching perseverance and humor, even in dire circumstances. Bill Horning put his faith in Jesus Christ for salvation; his family is looking forward to a coming reunion with him, even though they feel the pain of separation at present. Funeral services will be held at Grace Chapel 15th St. W., Lancaster, Calif., 93534 Feb. 4, 2017 at 11:00am. Lunch reception to follow.
