LAYTON, Ann Lee Shoemaker
LAYTON, Ann Lee Shoemaker Passed away suddenly on Jan. 23, 2017, in Palmdale, Calif. Ann was born Sept. 9, 1935, in Newfane, N.Y., the daughter of Jennie Edna Beers Shoemaker and Edwin Allan Shoemaker, M.D. She graduated from LaSalle High School and attended the University of Buffalo, where she played on the volleyball team and studied physical therapy, graduating with one of the earliest classes of physical therapists in the country. She was a pioneer in that field at AV Hospital. She married Garrison Paul Layton in 1960 (later divorced), and they moved to Lancaster, Calif. For 55 years, she sang barbershop harmony as a bass with the AV Showcase Chorus of Sweet Adelines. She also worked for 25 years in the optometry office of Gary Williams, D. O.Ann enjoyedspending time with herfamily and pets.Ann is survived by twin brother, Edwin Shoemaker; brother Mike Shoemaker; daughters, Lee Ann Setzer (Steve) and Nikki Lynn Johnston (Mark); and five grandchildren, Thomas, Jack, and Elizabeth Setzer, and Dalton and Katie Johnston. She was preceded in death by her mother. A memorial service will be held 10:00am, Sat., Feb. 4, 2017 at Joshua Mortuary, 3150 East Palmdale Blvd., Palmdale, Calif. In lieu of flowers, friends and family are invited to donate to the animal rescue organization of their choice.
